Featured Artist: So And Sew Crafty
1.) Tell me a bit about yourself (name, location, affiliations, personal stuff).
My name is Karen Copeland and I was born, raised and still live in Opp, Alabama. I've been sewing since about age 4 or 5, thanks to my grandmother! I have 4 wonderful children, son 25, son 20, son 19 and daughter 19! When I'm not "holed up" in my sewing room, I'm usually outside working with my flowers!
2.) What is the first thing you can remember making by hand? How and why did you make it?
I guess the first thing I remember sewing was a pretty green apron for my mother! My grandmother helped me make it on her old singer treadle machine, which I still have, and still works!
3.) What inspires you? Where do your ideas come from?
I guess you could say I am inspired by all the great fabrics I see. I also try to create things that people have expressed an interest in or need for.
4.) If you had a client who had unlimited money, what would you create for him and why?
Most likely it would be one of my memory quilts. I love to do them for people because it gives them a new way to show off and look at memories of fun times and loved ones.
5.) What is the best homemade item you have ever bought?
I would say the handmade rocking chair that sits in my sewing room!
