Inspiring Christmas - Hark! The Herald Angel Sings!

... And in that region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with fear. And the angel said to them, "Be not afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of a great joy which will come to all the people; for to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find a babe wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger." And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased!"

All my "Inspiring Christmas" posts have been leading up to the three for this week. I've always loved Christmas, the traditions, the fun, the decorations but most especially the religious aspects of it.

Inspiring Christmas - To Cute And Ready For Santa

As a child, I thought there was nothing better than dressing up my dolls. When my son was born a small part of me mourned the little girl I wouldn't get to dress up. Who knew there were so many absolutely adorable outfits for little boys.

I love dresses although I rarely wear them. I'm more of a t-shirt and jeans kind of girl but on those special occasions it's luxurious to slip into a dress and just know I look damn good!

Inspiring Christmas - My Own Gift Guide

As I said in my last post, I love Christmas shopping. Well, let's be honest, I love almost any type of shopping. But Christmas shopping is my favorite because it's a time when I can really think about who is important to me and what gift would suit each of them the best. So today's post is going to be my very own mini Etsy Gift Guide.

Inspiring Christmas - Fur Babies Like Presents Too!

I absolutely love Christmas shopping for the perfect gift for each member of my family and I always have. Actually, I remember when I was a child I bought my grandparents lottery tickets, perhaps not their heart's desire, but can you imagine how happy they would have been if they had won? I've also always thought it was important to include my fur babies in the gift giving.

Woof Woof! Meow Meow!

The first year my cat saw the Christmas tree she climbed it and knocked off half the ornaments. That year she was my only baby, fur or otherwise, so her stocking was absolutely stuffed.

Inspiring Christmas - Party Time!

I can't believe today is already December 1st! Time for the rounds of Christmas parties to start. Good friends, good music and good eats. Which means it's time to set the table and have a tin or two of delectable yummies on hand.

Welcome! Come In! Eat, Drink and Be Merry!

Candles, gorgeously set tables with centerpieces were staples at my Grandparents house more than ours.

Inspiring Christmas - Deck The Halls

We would decorate the whole house from floor to rafters. It was always a lot of fun but tonnes of work. I loved every moment of it!

Fa la la la la, la la la la!

My mother has always liked having mats and area rugs around the house. Those would get changed out to Christmas mats as well.

Stockings would be hung by the fire, candles placed on the mantle and garlands of pine and berries hung.

Outside of the lights on the tree I always liked adding other light sources throughout the house.

Inspiring Christmas - Welcoming Santa

By time we finished decorating the house for Christmas it looked like a totally different place. First we'd start by taking all the ornaments and knick knacks off all the shelves and furniture. Then we'd redecorate with the many Christmas items my mother had saved up over the years.

Don't Forget The Cookies

Santa Claus, Father Christmas, St. Nick, items have always been very popular in my family. I love old fashioned images of Santa.
Vintage 1967 Annalee Santa Standup Doll by FarStarr

Board games are quite popular in my family. These days everyone is hooked on backgammon but as children my brother and I loved checkers.
Cowboy Santa Checkerboard by Mulberry Lane Folk Art

Not to be forgotten, each of the bedrooms in the house would get a few Christmas items as well. My mother's bed usually looks like a display bed in a department store with all her pillows and bedrolls and Christmas time was no exception.

Inspiring Christmas - Beautify the Tree

Once the lights were straightened out and strung on the tree the fun times got started. I loved unwrapping each ornament and reminiscing about them. Each member of the family had their own favorites but the one I loved best was a little metal snowman picture frame that had a picture of our childhood babysitter.

Decorate! Beautify! Trim The Tree!

As we got older my mother started going to craft shows and fairs. I loved all the great items we'd find at them, things like these pine cone ornaments.
Snow White Natural Pinecone Christmas Ornaments - Set of 4 by AprilHilerDesigns

I'd strategically place items we had lots of so they didn't look clumped up on the tree.

One year I stitched a set of felt ornaments.

A standard of most Christmas trees are glass balls but we didn't have any handpainted ones.
Winter Trees with Cardinals Handpainted Ornament by Brush Stroke Ornaments

My brothers and I would fight over the package of tinsel. I thought it should be hung carefully and spread evenly. My brother was fine with throwing it on in clumps.

And finally we'd get to the tree topper. Sometimes we had an angel but when I was able to choose I'd always pick the star.
